About the role
Leads the program's day-to-day suicide prevention work, owns the safety protocol for high-risk participants, and is the main contact with the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System Suicide Prevention team.
What you'll do
- Own the high-risk safety protocol (C-SSRS and PHQ-9 item 9 response)
- Serve as the single point of contact with the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System Suicide Prevention Coordinator
- Ensure all five VA-required screening tools are used correctly (38 CFR 78.50)
- Supervise the Case Manager and Veteran Peer Support Specialists
- Review caseload documentation weekly
- Meet the 72-hour warm hand-off standard for referrals
- Deliver monthly gatekeeper suicide prevention training
- Document services in the VA Data Collection Tool in real time
Required
- Master's degree in a clinical or behavioral health field, OR a bachelor's degree plus 5 years of related experience
- Current training and competency in the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS)
- Stanley-Brown Safety Planning Intervention training
- CALM (Counseling on Access to Lethal Means) training
- At least 3 years working with Veterans or people at high risk of suicide
- Current HIPAA training and CPR/First Aid/BLS certification
- Availability for the evening and Saturday sessions above
Preferred
- Hawaii professional license (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent)
- Veteran or military family member (strongly preferred)
- Experience with the VA, DoD, or another SSG Fox grantee
- Existing relationships with VA Pacific Islands Health Care System or Hawaii Veteran-serving organizations
- Ability to speak Ilocano, Tagalog, Samoan, or another language common in Hawaii
